The Democratic Alliance (DA) says former Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse will remain a member of the party after she resigned as a DA councillor.
On Monday, Phalatse announced that she was leaving her political career to return to being a medical doctor.
In the resignation letter, she says that she had put her career on hold to try to make a difference.
She now believes she will make a more meaningful contribution to community development.
DA spokesperson Devon Steenkamp says, “We hereby confirm the resignation of Dr Mpho Phalatse from her roles within the DA and the local government. While Dr Phalatse will be sorely missed in her official capacity, we are grateful to share that she remains a member of the DA. Her decision was made in her personal and professional growth. We fully support her endeavours.”
Yes it’s true! I will be back.
I’m sharing my resignation letter for your information. Lots of love pic.twitter.com/iFZsDxCLWu
