The Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade (IFPYB) has told the party’s mother body not to discount entering into coalitions with parties other than those that signed the Multi-Party Charter for South African Coalition a few days ago.
The brigade, which has written to the IFP leadership, has recommended that the party withdraw from the charter.
The brigade also says the IFP should not enter into any agreements before next year’s elections.
The IFP is amongst seven political parties which joined the pre-election pact. The others are the Democratic Alliance (DA), Freedom Front Plus (FF+), ActionSA, United Independent Movement (UIM), Spectrum National Party (SNP) and Independent South African National Civic Organisation (ISANCO).
The parties have pledged not to entertain any working arrangements with the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa, speaking at the Multi-Party Charter Convention last week, said there is still hope for South Africa and voters need to turn up at the polls next year.
“As the IFP, we are here to determine how best to serve SA together, how best to bring about much needed change and how to make sure that the issues that are important to our constituencies are on the negotiating table; these include crime, unemployment, poverty, load shedding, inequality and the ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor. As politicians we can’t bring change alone, we need the help of all South Africans and civil society. If you are unhappy about the way things are in SA, do not stay silent register and vote and effect a change of government in 2024.”
