Orlando Pirates will be looking to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance when the new DSTV Premiership season kicks off on Friday. The Buccaneers will travel to Stellenbosch on Saturday, hoping to begin their campaign on a high note.
Orlando Pirates were Mamelodi Sundowns’ strongest challengers last season. They won two trophies in the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup, and also finished second on the log although 16 points behind champions, Sundowns.

Their coach, Jose Riveiro, says their match against Stellenbosch will be tough.
“Away games are always difficult, Cape Town has different weather conditions. Young team with quality but we are going with the intention to collect three points,” says Riveiro.
Stellenbosch have been consistent in the league for the past two seasons, finishing in the top eight position. Their coach, Steve Barker, will be hoping they win at least one piece of silverware this season.
“We want to be better than every season, we have shown consistency in the league fourth and sixth. So we want to continue pushing for those positions and higher. We want to play in Africa, we came close to making the finals so there are trophies we can play for,” says Barker.
