The community of KwaDlangezwa on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast are celebrating Banyana Banyana’s win over Italy in the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Thursday.
Taxi drivers are hooting and students have come out to show their support for the national side that has now advanced to the Round of 16.
They say Banyana Banyana have bridged the inequality gap between men and women in sport.
Maxwell Zulu says, “As a young woman living in South Africa, I have learnt that Banyana Banyana has broken the bridge of inequality between men and women.”
Slindile Mathebula says, “The team is combined in a way we have never seen before but there are player who are still at the ground who can utilise their talents in the FIFA World Cup. We have the likes of Dlamini there at the post who can assist the goalkeeper.”
